A relative said something about Lucas this past weekend that was right on point. She described him as a bull in a china shop, who then runs up and gives you a big hug and kiss afterwards. I had to laugh, because that is a great description of Lucas. If you aren't familiar with his "bull in a china shop" tendencies, feel free to read this post and then come back. Yes, he really struggles with anger and impulse control. I can rattle off all the things he has broken in our house lately....just in the past week or month. One doctor recently described it to me like this: Some kids have speech delays, physical limitations, or learning disabilities in school. Lucas has a delay in his ability to control his impulses.
Yesterday I caught him being so sweet with his little sister. She was practicing her letters, and he helped her without being asked. He was kind and patient and just so sweet. I caught a few seconds on video:
I see him being so loving, and I have a hard time reconciling that with his other extremely aggressive side. But it does give me hope. One day he will outgrow these issues and learn to control himself. He will learn how to better handle his anger. And I know he will always be one of the most loving boys I know.
