We have a new little chore/reward system going on around here. My mother-in-law put together these cute clipboards for the 3 oldest kids, on which we have listed their daily and weekend chores.
Here they are inside our entryway hall closet.
Inside this closet is where we keep everyone's jackets, backpacks, shoes and socks. It's kind of the command center for getting ready in the morning,
Each clipboard has a set of clothespins with chores listed on them. They start out on the "To Do" side, and once they are completed the kids are supposed to move them to the "Done" side.At the end of the day, if the child has moved all their clothespins, they receive a star, or initial from us. We keep track of how many each child has.....
And they can use those points to "buy" things from the reward menu. As you can see, it is a mix of tangible items, experiences, treats, etc. Lucas is very excited to spend an afternoon at the "park inside the church", and Ryan is all about earning a trip to Tops frozen yogurt. Jenna's just kind of along for the ride.
So far this system is going.....OK. I think one of the hardest parts is actually for Adam and I to take the time every night to check the kids' chores and see if they earned their star. We'd like to get to the place where we don't have to remind them about each chore, but we're not there yet. And just to clarify....the chores are not optional. If they don't want to participate in this system, or if they complain about their chores, they still have to do them....plus extras. (Ryan I'm looking at you!)I'd also love to work an allowance into the system somehow. We were giving Ryan a weekly allowance for a little while earlier this year, but it just became one more thing we were having trouble staying on top of. I'd love to hear what works in your family in terms of chores!
